After reading the first five letters of The Color Purple, reflect on your thoughts and emotions as you experienced Celie’s early voice and struggles.

Prompt Response: Reading Celie's early letters made me feel kind of mad because its difficult to imagine someone so young face such cruelty and having no one to protect her.

Summary: Her voice is raw and deeply painful. She writes directly to god because she has no one else to turn to. Through her letters I leaarned about the abuse from her father and the loss of her children.

Reflection: Her voice teaches me about resilience, and the power of expression. Even though her life is full of pain, writing becomes her way to surviving.
